Old School Martial Arts Fights

April 30, 2011 – San Diego Grand Nationals Tournament Team Fights

Last clash of the fight – Pops (aka. Dr. Muscle, Dr. Mick Leone) scores with a very quick defensive rear kick to the “bread basket”. Opponent is multiple world semi-contact and kick boxing champion (as well as friend of 40 years) Orned “Chicken” Gabriel. They have competed against each other in four title fights back in the day.  The score remains a 2-2 split.

Below left – Pops scored with a quick right stiff jab causing opponent’s head to snap back, as he moved off angle to the right avoiding a left cross.

Below right – Pops moves off angle, avoids left cross and scores with a heavy right hook to the head.

Back in the day, (era of Chuck Norris, Joe Lewis, Bill Wallace, Benny “The Jet” Urquidez, Larry McCraw, Steve “Nasty” Anderson, Orned “Chicken” Gabriel to mention a few) there were no pads for hands or feet.  It was bare knuckles baby…hard core!!

Below is part of an exhibition fight at Victory MMA on July 9, 2011. Doc is staying out of range as he tries to pick his shots with mild authority.
